Syria decries US airstrike, calls it an aggression

The US, early Friday morning fired 59 Tomahawk missiles intended for a single target — Ash Sha'irat in Homs province in western Syria. The missiles were fired from two warships in the Mediterranean Sea, in retaliation for  Assad's deadly chemical attack on his people on Tuesday, read here .

Russian reality show to allow rape and murder as contestants compete for cash prize

A questionable new reality TV show set to be launched in Russia has sparked controversy after its rules promised to allow “fighting, murder and rape”. The Hunger Games-style contest, called “Game2: Winter”, which is the brainchild of 35 year old millionaire, Yevgeny Pyatkovsky, has been accused by critics of promoting “savage and bestial behaviour”.

South Korean President, Park Guen-hye impeached

South Korea's Constitutional Court has upheld a decision by the country's National Assembly to impeach President Park Guen-hye in a unanimous decision with all eight judges on the court voting to remove Park from office. Park is the first South Korean President to be impeached.

21-year-old Israeli soldier who shot Palestinian assailant sentenced to 18 months in jail

Sergent Elor Azaria, an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldier, convicted of killing a Palestinian assailant, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison by a military court. The verdict was delivered on Tuesday, February 21, 2017.

Former Hong Kong leader, Donald Tsang sentenced to 20 months in jail for misconduct in public office

Hong Kong's former leader, Donald Tsang has been jailed for 20 months, making him the city's highest-ranking official to be put behind bars.According to broadcaster RTHK, Tsang, who was Chief Executive from 2005 to 2012, was jailed by the High Court for 20 months after he was found guilty by a jury of misconduct in public office.

Iranian state-run media is reporting the death of former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani who died Sunday January 8, 2017 after suffering a heart attack at the age of 82. Rafsanjani, who served two terms as Iran's president from 1989 to 1997, continued to be an influential figure in Iranian politics.

Knife-wielding man attacks 11 children after scaling fence of a nursery in China

A man wielding a knife went on a rampage in a nursery school in China and attacked a group of children. According to Chinese media reports, the yet-to-be identified 41-year-old man scaled a wall and attacked 11 children at the school located in Pingxiang, a city in the southern region of Guangxi. He claimed he was there to pick up his son but allegedly climbed a wall to enter the facility.

Lebanon moves to abolish law that allows rapists to escape punishment by marrying their victims

Lebanese lawmakers on Wednesday took the first step to overturn a law that allows rapists to avoid punishment if they marry their victims. Article 522 of the penal code states that if a man rapes an unmarried woman, he can avoid prosecution for the crime if he marries the victim.

Romance Scam: Two Nigerian men arrested in Thailand for swindling women seeking foreign husbands

Police on Thursday, November 24th, arrested two Nigerians and three Thai women for allegedly swindling women seeking foreign husbands out of 50 million baht through an internet romance scam.
According to Provincial Police Region 4 chief Pol Maj Gen Jatupon Parnraksa, the two Nigerian men identified as Okwutor Peter, 29, and Jeremiah Ndidi, 27 and their three Thai accomplices were arrested at a Bangkok condominium where police seized 20 bank books and ATMs with transactions totalling more than 50 million baht.
